With the security threat looming large, the endowments department, with the active coordination of police and revenue beefed up security arrangements at various major temples in the three district region of East, West and Krishna districts. According to sources, these measures were initiated on the directions of security agencies. The three district region has 4,230 major, minor and small temples including numerous Ramalayams in rural, semi-urban and urban areas in the region.

These temples came under the umbrella of the endowments department after the TTD started issuing mike sets to these temples, forcing them to register. After classifying temple cadre and taking into account, ancestral status and importance, the department has provided security measures like installation of closed circuit (CC) cameras, metal detectors and armed gua-rds at these identified temples in the three district region with round-the-clock monitoring. These are Sri Satyanarayana Swamy temple at Anna-varam, Goddess Talupul-amma temple at Talupul-amma Lova, Goddess Maridemma temple at Kandrakota, Bala Balaji temple at Mamidikuduru, Sri Lakshminarasimha Swamy temple at Antar-vedi in East Godavari.

In West Godavari Balaji temple at Dwaraka Tirumala and Goddess Mavullamma temple at Bhimavaram found their way into the special category list. Among the major temples in Krishna district are the Durga Malleswari temple at Vijayawada, Subrahmanyeswara temple at Mopidevi, Venkates-wara temple at Trumala-giri, Kasi Visveswara temple at Muktyala, Goddess Peddantalamma and Syambalama temples at Kolletikota and Kaikaluru. The endowments deputy commissioner (DC) in-charge of the region, Mr V. Trinadha Rao, said that depending on need and assessment, security measures were initiated at these temples.

“We will review security periodically with the concerned and make changes, if necessary,” the deputy commissioner added.
