Almost seven years ago, when she debuted in Bollywood with a Salman Khan film, Sneha Ullal was tagged as the Aishwarya Rai. Her looks got her all the attention, but that’s where similarities to Ash ended. Though she figured in a couple of Tollywood films, her career didn’t take off as anticipated. Rumors of her being out of work were all over the place as she was MIA for around a year.

Clarifying the reason for her absence, Sneha says, “I had a major back problem and had gone to Muscat to get it treated. The pain was getting too much to take, so I needed to take time off. I have lost a lot of weight too due to this problem; I need to put on a few pounds before I sign my next film.” Seldom does one hear about an actress wanting to put on weight! “I hate being skinny, besides T-town needs its heroines to be a little fat!” she quips.

The actress is confident that her upcoming film will do well, but she says that settling down in one industry is not what she plans to do, “I will definitely work in Bollywood too. I am just waiting for the right age so that I look like a woman; I think I still look like a girl. Sohail Khan too recently told me that I need to become a little more mature.”

It’s not just Bollywood, Sneha says she wants be all over the place, “I want every person in the country to know me as their local heroine. Be it Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil, Bhojpuri or even Bengali, I want to do them all. But I also want to be loyal to each industry. I will give time to each project and take things slow.”

Sneha reveals that she also wants to extend the scope of her work overseas, “We had shot a beautiful sequence for an English film titled “Gandhi Park” in Goa, and the rest was supposed to be shot in the US, but it has been kept on hold. I am still in touch with the producers of the film and they have told me that the project will resume in some time. So I am still waiting.”
Sneha feels that our film industry has a lot to learn from Hollywood when it comes to respecting cast and crew. “Everyone from the spot boy to the director is treated with a lot of respect there. It is only here that such a big fuss is made over stars.”

Starry tantrums get on to her nerves she says, “Tollywood is so hero-oriented that it pi**es me off! Even if the actor has a string of flops, he still gets work. But an actress has to work her way up. I can’t do anything about it, I just have to go with the flow and hope that people change their mindset.”

Looking back at her career so far, Sneha says she has turned down many big movies due to her own limitations, “I am uncomfortable with kissing on screen and showing skin and this made me lose out on so many big films. However, I don’t regret those decisions and I am not even going to make an attempt to change my attitude. Call me unprofessional, but that’s just me! I just hope that one day, people will not make such a big deal about skin show in films and kissing scenes. May be then my thinking will change and I will be open to doing it on screen.”
