Congress’ Andhra in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad will be in Hyderabad on Friday to hold consultation on the Telangana issue. This, comes days after Congress MLA KV Reddy put an end his nine-day fast after Azad’s assurance.

The Congress high command, after much deliberation, hinted on announcing a decision on Telangana after November 10.

As Congress high command continues to grapple with the Telangana issue, chief of the party’s Andhra Pradesh unit Botsa Satyanarayana held consultations with senior leaders including Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday.

Earlier, Narayana had also met Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s political secretary Ahmed Patel.

Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari, however, refused to answer questions on Telangana saying the AICC general secretary in-charge of the state is seized of the matter and he will respond to them.

As the controversies over the separate statehood of Telangana continues to trouble the party, Congress has reacted with great caution even on the issue of Mayawati’s reported plans to divide Uttar Pradesh into four parts saying the party favours a State Reorganization Commission to look into such demands across the country.

To a specific question on whether the proposed Commission will also cover the issue of statehood to Telangana, party spokesperson Rashid Alvi on Wednesday merely said, “It will cover the entire country” and evaded further questions on the issue.

Telangana MPs are in a dilemma whether or not to attend the winter session of Parliament beginning November 22. The MPs, after Sakala Janula Samme was called off and the T movement slowed down, appeared to have taken a break, pinning hopes on the Congress high command to announce its decision on Telangana.

With AICC general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad saying at Chennai on Friday that a lot more exercise had to be done by the party before taking a policy decision on the T issue, the MPs would like to meet in Hyderabad on Monday to discuss whether or not they should attend the winter session. According to Telangana Congress Steering Committee chairman K Keshava Rao, as the party has not yet made its mind clear on the T issue, the MPs have not yet discussed the future course of action.
