Telangana Congress leaders were hoping against hope that the party’s Central leadership would resolve the Telangana tangle sooner than later. With pressure becoming unbearable from their constituents, the people’s representatives were preparing to make a last ditch effort to persuade the party leadership to make an announcement on T.

The Telangana Congress steering Committee has used several tricks in the bag to persuade the party leadership. It has made supplications, set deadlines and now it says that if the party delays a decision even after Sept 30, they may have to cross the Rubicon and that the Centre should have to blame itself for the consequences that would follow.

Similarly, the Telangana ministers, who are becoming increasingly isolated for remaining in the Kiran Kumar Reddy Cabinet, too want to make a fervent plea to the party leadership to resolve the issue. They would be part of the Steering Committee delegation that would call on the party bosses in Delhi on September 25 and 26.

Meanwhile, chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy is likely to visit Delhi this month end to apprise the party leadership of the Telangana movement and how it was affecting the administration. As Union ministers Ghulam Nabi Azad and Pranab Mukherjee will be arriving in Delhi on September 25, the T activists were hoping they would be able to take a fresh look at the issue and finalise the party’s stand.

Kiran Kumar Reddy, while addressing a public meeting at his camp office on Saturday, said that it may take two to three months for the Centre to announce a decision, which had dampened the hopes of those who are expecting an early solution to the T tangle.

When contacted, Karimnagar MP Ponnam Prabhakar appeared despondent. “I don’t understand what is happening in Delhi, No one is talking about it and none appears to be bothered about the agitations that are taking place in Telangana region,” he said. While another Telangana leader P Sudhakar Reddy said that it may take more than one year for the Centre to take a decision and suggested to Telangana steering committee to represent its case to UPA partners like TMC and NCP, who are against bifurcation.
