The former Home Minister and senior Congress leader, Mr K Jana Reddy, has opined that the Telangana slogan will not disappear till the Telangana state was formed.

Speaking to the media at Gandhi Bhavan here on Monday, Mr Jana Reddy said that loss of TRS in the by-elections would not mean waning of Telangana slogan. He asked Mr Chandrasekhara Rao what he achieved by resigning to the posts again and again?

Mr Jana Reddy said that the Congress party too was working hard for the achievement of Telangana State in its own way. The PCC Chief, Mr D Srinivas, was sincerely working towards the achievement of Telangana State since 1999. He also said that Mr Srinivas was one among the 41 MLAs who had signed in the memorandum submitted to the party president, Ms Sonia Gandhi, in 1999 stressing the necessity of the formation of separate Telangana State.

The former Home Minister said that the Telangana Congress leaders too were striving for the achievement of Telangana like those who quit as MLAs for the cause. “If Telangana was not possible with the Congress leaders, how could it be possible with others”, he asked. Appealing to the people to help strengthen the party by ensuring victory of the Congress candidates in the by-elections, Mr Jana Reddy asserted that the Congress alone would achieve Telangana.

Responding to a query, the senior leader said that the people have realized that the TDP Chief, Mr Chandrababu Naidu has taken up the Babli Yatra at this juncture just for political mileage in the by-elections. “We are not bothered about his Yatra,” he added. He also appealed to Mr Chandrababu Naidu to co-operate with the ruling party to discuss the Babli issue with the Prime Minister adding that the TDP had only proposed the all-party meet with the Prime Minister.

Condemning the arrests of the TDP leaders by the Maharashtra government, Mr Jana Reddy said that the Maharashtra government should voluntarily show the project site to the AP leaders. “While tourists from various countries were visiting different parts of the world, what’s wrong with the leaders of a neighbouring State visiting the place? It was wrong on the part of the Maharashtra government to order arrest of the TDP leaders in the name of law and order?” He said the State government would try sincerely to solve the Babli issue.
