Cases have been registered against Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) chairman M Kodandaram, senior BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya, TRS legislator K Taraka Rama Rao and several others for organising protests on rail tracks at Moula Ali, Ghatkesar and other places as part of the two-day Rail Roko.

According to the railway police officials, 40 cases have been registered against Telangana activists for obstructing rail traffic as part of their Sakalajanula Samme. A majority of cases registered by the Railway Protection Force (RPF), are pertaining to trespassing. The Government Railway Police (GRP) have registered two cases against T activists for damaging railway property.

“Thousands of people came onto the tracks as part of the TJAC Rail Roko. It is impossible to register cases against all of them. We have registered cases against the leaders who led the Rail Roko,” an RPF official said.

“We will also identify those who caused nuisance on the rail tracks as part of the stir, with the help of video footage and arrest them,” the official said.

“We have registered cases against the T activists for damaging railway property,” Secunderabad railway superintendent of police M Kantha Rao said.

Soon after the end of Rail Roko at Moula Ali, a protestor set afire to four seats of an abandoned coach. At Bibinagar, a protestor damaged the window of a goods train on Saturday, Kantha Rao said.

The Nizamabad police also registered a case against a youth who tried to commit suicide near a railway station as part of the agitation.

TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao on Monday called upon the Telangana Congress leaders to leave their party and take a plunge into the T agitation.

Speaking to newsmen after attending the TJAC meeting, Chandrasekhara Rao wanted them to understand how chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy was allegedly harming the Telangana movement.

“No more supplications or requests for Telangana. Don’t go to Delhi. Leave the Congress. Be on the side of the people and fight,” Chandrasekhara Rao said.

He said Kiran Reddy was trying to disrupt the movement by trying to set farmers against the T activists. “He has imposed massive power cuts to farmers. The intention is clear. He wants the farmers to fight with us. This is deception of the highest order,” Chandrasekhara Rao said.

He wanted to know why hydel units are not being run though reservoirs were full. “It is being done deliberately to create a power crisis in the state and taking advantage of it, impose cuts to farm sector in the Telangana region,” he said and described the cut as unprecedented in the history of the state as at no time farm sector was ever subjected to power shutdown. “We have seen cuts for domestic and industrial sectors. At no time were there any power cuts for farm sector,” he said.

The state government is taking all steps for successful implementation of the muchpublicised `1perkg rice scheme announced by chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy recently. As part of it, the finance department has decided to allocate the about Rs 200 crore for the scheme to be implemented from November 1 for the next five months. The chief minister would formally launch the Rs 1akg rice scheme on AP Formation Day. Kiran Kumar Reddy is contemplating more schemes to woo the weaker sections. “The chief minister is focusing on youth and women empowerment, welfare of farmers and the poor. The prime focus would be on education and employment sectors.

Kiran Reddy himself is the chairman of Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu and he will directly review the programme meant to provide about 15 lakh jobs in the private sector,” CMO officials said. As for the funds for the new schemes, Kiran Reddy himself had claimed that he had achieved financial discipline and there would be no problem for funds for new schemes in future.According to Rawat, special secretary to chief minister, all schemes and programmes launched by former chief minister late YS Rajasekhara Reddy were being continued. Besides, new schemes like ‘Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu’ and ‘Milk Mission’ were also planned to benefit youth and farmers.

As for the Rs 1akg rice scheme, commissioner of civil supplies Harpreet Singh said the entire expenditure would be borne by the state government. At present, the department has Rs 50 crore savings under subsidy budget relating to rice scheme and another Rs 200 crore would be provided by the finance department. The government is making arrangements to provide the required funds in the budget. In all, the state exchequer has to bear an additional burden of about `600 crore for the `1 per kg rice scheme. Till date, about Rs 2,000 crore is being incurred towards rice subsidy per year under Rs 2akg rice scheme. Now, the cost would go up to Rs 2,600 crore.About 3.3 lakh metric tonnes of subsidised rice is required per month to supply it through PDS to white card holders numbering about 2.01 crore. Another 25 lakh BPL families would get white cards under RachabandaII.
